I was fortunate enough to be born fairly intelligent, and I was a good student. Many years ago, my high school guidance counselor told me “You can be anythin

With high school graduation ceremonies going on currently or recently, it is time for the seniors who are college-bound to start looking for college scholarships if they have not started already, or to continue that search if they have already started. With the costs of attending college going up astronomically every year, most students are going to require some type of financial aid to pay for college.

College scholarships provide that kind of financial aid that college students need, especially those that are not at all excited about having tens of thousands of dollars in student loans to be paid back when they graduate. That kind of financial burden can really put a damper on college graduation, especially in today's job market where competition is fierce and well-paying jobs are not as plentiful as one would like to see.

But like anything that has a demand, the market for college scholarships is yet another area that is ripe for abuse by scammers. Just about anybody who can write well can send out a ton of spam in a very attractive email that makes it appear as if the potential student has "already been awarded"

ships is yet another area that is ripe for abuse by scammers. Just about anybody who can write well can send out a ton of spam in a very attractive email that makes it appear as if the potential student has "already been awarded" a scholarship, and all the student needs to do is pay the processing fee to get the scholarship awarded.

These are scams and should be avoided like the plague. Nobody is ever "automatically awarded" a scholarship. The businesses and companies who are awarding these scholarships need to understand who the scholarships are being awarded to, what the student intends to pursue at college, the student's financial status, and a host of other details. There is nothing automatic about it at all.

If you think about it, this makes perfect sense, but the student who is required to pay thousands of dollars by a deadline to get into the school of their choice may not be in a position to be thinking clearly as those deadlines loom.
