    What is a Story?

    The answer to this question is not as simple as may seem. We recognise stories as children and we recognise them when they are incomplete or inadequate. This implies that we are searching (subconsciously) for a pattern to be met. What is that pattern?

    There are multiple elements to a complete answer, including:

    a) A story includes (or IS) Transformation. Hero(es) are expected to transform sufficiently before they are able to conquer the(ir) antagonisms. In Annie Hall (1977), Annie has to grow before she can make it independently in Los Angeles. In Gladiator (2000), Maximus has to become a respected Gladiator before he has an opportunity to defeat Commodus.

    b) A story includes a physical or psychological
