Cut Down On Business Paperwork With HR Workflow Management Software
At its simplest definition, workflow is the movement of documents and/or tasks through a work process, and for many people, the idea of Human Resources and workflow in business involves the improvement of processing paperwork. Workflow is the operational aspect of a work procedure: how tasks are structured, who performs them, how they are synchronised, how tasks are tracked; the tasks involved in determining w

    The Dissatisfied Customer
We, as small business people, naturally dislike complaints from our clients and customers. Because we're intimately involved with our home businesses, small businesses, or freelance careers, any complaint takes on a personal commentator. A dissatisfied customer is a direct reflection on our performance and a blow to our egos. The common reaction of small business people to a consumer complaint is defensive pos
I love owning my own businesses. After fifteen years the excitement still hasn’t worn off. I get up every morning happy to be heading off to the office (though I must admit I now ‘work from home’ one or two days a week). I enjoy the challenge and freedom of not having to answer to anyone. Furthermore, although I am not really motivated by money, I do like having a main home, a country home and an apartment in the sun – not to mention a nice car and plenty of cash in my bank account.

It used to be very different. I had an OK job working for a publisher. When I say OK I mean OK. The work was OK. The people were OK. The money was OK. I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t miserable. I was OK. OK is OK. But now that I am involved in something that rewards me in every sense of the word I don’t know how I put up with ‘OK’ for so long.

I never expected to be an entrepreneur. Like many people I had thought about it, but somehow it seemed so daunting. What’s more, I hate risk, loathe selling and am not particularly greedy. Hardly the business type. In fact, it all happened by accident. The company I was working for got into trouble and some of my colleagues decided to buy it out. I only joined them to keep my job. And now, fifteen years later, I own the firm and have bought several other firms along the way.

It turns out that you don’t have to take many risks in business if you don’t want to. Nor do you have to sell. Or be desperate to earn a fortune. In fact, in my experience the secret is to adopt an ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again’ approach. If one thing isn’t a rip roaring success, switch to something else. As to making money? Do what you enjoy, have a vision, look after your customers and the money will follow.

    Meet Jim Storm

Having said all of the above, I must admit that I owe a great deal of my success to a serial entrepreneur called Jim Storm. Jim has encouraged me at every stage of my business career. When it comes to advice, tips and ideas – there is no better man. Jim has been involved in a huge range of enterprises from hairdressing to food manufacturing and from import/export to marketing. He is a self-made millionaire many times over but he never shows off and most of his money goes to charity – though he won’t tell you that. When the opportunity to join the management buy out came along he coaxed me into it. And when each successive opportunity came along it was Jim who pushed me to seize it. Anyway, several years ago Jim decided to write a newsletter for people who want to start or expand their business and I agreed to publish it.

The Only Bad Advertising Is No Advertising - Or Is It?
Depending on whom you ask, you will get told many “truths” about advertising. The question I have for you today is this – “Is the only bad advertising, no advertising?”Before we begin, it might help us to agree on what advertising is, so here’s one definition:“Advertising is the non-personal communication of an individual’s paid persuasive information regarding products, and or services via vario

    CBS VS Google
Viacom (CBS) is suing you tube (Google), for displaying clips of their shows like CSI and the Colbert report. I would like to know why. Being on you tube, wouldn’t you get more exposure, more fans, intern bringing more revenue. Won’t people get sick of the six minute clips and poor video quality and watch it on t.v. Viacom should think as you tube doing a service, like teaser trailers. It sounds like Red

Background Check: Be Prepared for What Future Employers Might Find
Do you know what to expect when applying for a new job? Most job seekers are under the impression that employers only check the references listed on your resume or application. This is an inherently false assumption. A recent People Search News article reported that more than 80% of all business now performs comprehensive background checks on all potential employees, compared to less than half that number 10 y

Build A Team - The Right Team (There is a Difference)
Creating the right team is imperative to your success. A team is comprised of people who can bring necessary skill sets to the venture. A team is different from partners. Partners are financially and legally tied to the venture while team members are brought in to create and continue the process. Team members can be employees or sub-contactors. These are people you can control – you get to pick them. You can u
