Playing from the Blue Tees: Women in the Federal Government
Throughout the past decade, workplace diversity issues have allowed organizations to adjust their policies in response to the need for workplace equality in all aspects. As a result of the dynamic political, social and economic changes, some companies have willingly become more inclusive, integrating women, people of color, gays/lesbians, and individuals with disabilities into their workforce at all levels of their organizations. However, others have failed to make this paradigm shift. The Federal government has failed to see the benefits of a diverse workforce, which is evident by the lack of diversity of the people it serves. Research by the Center for Creative Leadership (2002), show women in business have been required to adapt to a well established hierarchal system built around the strengths of its majority of male players. As women have entered the workplace, they initially try to create only a modest variant in a male dominated workplace. Gender diversity could be very beneficial to the Federal government, causin

For example, I know of several individuals who began living off their gross income instead of their net income. This results in new cars, more staff, a bigger computer system, a fancier brochure., etc. We all realize how exciting some of those deals c
Branding - A Good Place to Start
If a potential customer can recognize your brand, your marketing efforts are paying off and business relationships will be easier to obtain. I went to a recent networking event and was doing my pitch with selling Sales Process Consulting under the Power Marketing International flag. We had previously been at trade shows, networking events, put on a seminar and even had one training and eCoaching session under our belts. I felt that we had likely only touched two hundred people at the most in our efforts. We were too new in the game to gain more recognition. Much to my surprise, when talking with several individuals at this event, they had all heard our name and wanted to know more. When I asked them where they had heard it, they could not specifically remember but knew it was through a business associate. It was through this recognition that my sales pitch became easier and I actually got some business this way. I am a pusher of branding. I feel by branding yourself, products, or services, buyers will not only re
It seems as if everyone wants to have their own business these days. With so many large companies permanently downsizing, Entrepreneurialism is attracting many people. Having our own business for the last 28 years has given us a tremendous amount of freedom and opportunity. However, there were some tough times that we could have avoided had we been smarter.

One of the easiest ways to start your own business and get up and running as soon as possible is to associate with someone who has already done a lot of the preliminary work for you. Network marketing is offering tremendous opportunities for many people who would otherwise waste time looking for a business or be stuck in traditional jobs with all the limitations thereto.

For those of you who are thinking of stating your own business or already have, I offer the following thoughts for your consideration.

1.Don’t RE-INVENT THE WHEEL. Take advantage of all of the resources that are available to you. There is very little that is new to the world anymore. Seek out those resources. Especially when you are organizing your company, use the already proven methods.

If you are a franchisee or something like that, your sponsoring company has done this before, listen to them. They want you to succeed, study their success stories and see how you can organize and develop the skills necessary.

2.KEEP OVERHEAD LOW. Show fiscal responsibility. When people start their own business they sometimes go a little bit crazy and skew their thinking. For example, I know of several individuals who began living off their gross income instead of their net income. This results in new cars, more staff, a bigger computer system, a fancier brochure., etc. We all realize how exciting some of those deals ca

Why You Need To Use Self-Help Programs
Recently i met with a gentleman at a networking event and we got talking about his business, and then we began discussing self help programs and his comment was along the lines: "why do people keep going to motivational events? Can't they just do it for themselves?." It was not so much what he said, but how he said it, his negative tone and disgust at why people would consider spending good money to attend such events.I had to chuckle at his uneducated comment, and so i asked him: "why are you here today?." In a way, he kind of answered his own question. There was nothing particularly different to the people who just a few minutes ago he had damned and his own reasons for coming to the networking event that night, which was to network, learn from others, share ideas and form potential alliances for business. You see if you are to be successful in anything in life beit business or your career, you must continuosly educate yourself either by attending seminars, reading books, listening to tapes, visiting social n

    Business Stress and its Causes
What is Business Stress? Business stress is felt during times of conflict, pressure, loss, illness or anxiety. It describes the frantic pace of business life. Everyone reacts differently to stress. Some people can cope and take it in their stride; others find the pressure too much and buckle under. Much of the stress, anxiety, and the sense of overload that people carry is because they feel their lives are out of control. Stress seems to come from the perception that our life feels overloaded. In medical terms, stress is your body's physical reactions to change, which is not always bad. It is said that a little bit of stress is good for our well-being and exercises our faculties. However today's stress caused by business activity can have a detrimental, psychological or emotional effect on our health. What Causes Stress? Business stress is a common result of fear - fear of uncertainty and insecurity. When working within a large company your fear may come from dealing with your boss, or fr

    Telecommuting Job Idea: Virtual Assistant
One of the newest jobs available today is a virtual assistant. With so many jobs being completed through the internet, having virtual office staff only makes sense. It helps companies keep down overhead, and allows more workers the flexibility to telecommute. While there are training programs to teach you how to become a virtual assistant, many people already possess the skills needed. You simply need to learn to market yourself, showing the potential employer you’re the perfect person for the job.Where to find a job as a virtual assistant: There are virtual assistant associations found on the internet that could assist in your training and job search. Some people who run home offices advertise for a virtual assistant, to help them stay organized without having to have an outside person come to their home. The VA will help them stay current by answering e-mails, reminding them of appointments, and other office administrative duties. Some VA assistant jobs may require occasional office visits, so you would need to li

For example, I know of several individuals who began living off their gross income instead of their net income. This results in new cars, more staff, a bigger computer system, a fancier brochure., etc. We all realize how exciting some of those deals can sound, but remember, if you live off your gross, life in this business will be very short. The Tax man cometh!

3.DON’T GET INTO DEBT. Get rid of the debt you have. This is part of fiscal responsibility as we just mentioned. But it is so important that it gets its own category.

We are often asked by college students, other young people, and fledgling entrepreneurs how they can start their own businesses. What we say is not exactly what they want to hear. First, we say they should NOT buy the fancy car, stereo system, take an exotic vacation, etc. but get their financial house in order. Many of the college students we talk with seem to think that graduation should be followed by a really exciting (and expensive ) vacation.

Guard your credit rating at all costs.

The reason is, most of us spend more than we make right now. If you are going to take a risk and go into your own business, you will need to have the ability to financially cover the time when cash flow is short or non existent. If you live from pay check to pay check you have no options. Incidentally, if you are not familiar with the term “cash flow” you will know it real well as soon as you start your business.

4.PUT AWAY MONEY. Keep an attitude fund. This comes along with #3. As your business begins to make money there is a very strong tendency to want to reward yourself. After all, you risked, you worried but
