Expat Entrepreneur - Do You Have What It Takes
Expat entrepreneurs live a certain lifestyle that allows them to be at home in a foreign country so to speak. There are different reasons why people move abroad. Retirement, health reasons, family, the climate, the career of the other half for example. I have been living abroad for longer periods in my life and I have always enjoyed it. For me, being a Dutchman living in foreign countries has always been good. We meet each other in the so called expat communities and find ways to support each other on may occasions. This really is an article based upon my own experiences and observations.Expat Entrepreneurs CategoriesI have been observing quite a few people who moved abroad initially for job reasons. If they are not diplomats who are automatically rotated to next destinations, they usually end up in three categories after the expat contract has come to an end.1. Accept a regular jobUsually, this happens if they get roots in their new country and need to make a living. Continuing the profession they had is the easiest way to keep themselves going in the host country. Big disadvantage usually is the drop in salary, bonuses and other nice perks that come with an expatriate contract. Life is all about choice.2. Go back or move onIf they do not have roots in the host country, they are likely to move on again. Either to another location on another expatriate contract or they might simply go back to where they came from.3. Become self employedIf you like to be in a foreign country and h

Rock & Roll ServiceMy husband and I are not regular church goers but on occasion attend - like this past Sunday. Once a year our local Anglican Church has a rock and roll service lead by our Reverend, a music-and-God-loving man, on lead guitar (accompanied by drums, bass, keyboards, and vocals). This Anglican Church is not a swinging New Age temple but rather steeped in the ancient, staid rituals of liturgy and communion each Sunday (and no, this is not a call for converts). So this past Sunday's service was in some ways a surprising divergence yet in another way, even with an electric rendition of traditional music the service and sermon remained very grounded in what is right, good and true.Non Judgmental Progress?This is a metaphor we can apply to our own lives as we experiment with our desires for the new. Constantly we are bombarded with the message that "new" is better and hence all progress - meaning that which is untried or new - is good. Worsening this situation, as eloquently stated in our Sunday sermon, is the "Enlightened" belief we are to be non-judgmental. This new, progressive image of the enlightened, non-judgmental human has parents, teachers and preachers alike careening away from the old image of the repressed, dogmatic, rigid person who's uptight about right and wrong. We see parents being best friends with their kids; and preachers and teachers throwing in swear words to show they are not uptight or judgmental.But what have we lost in this so-called progressiv
As with many school systems across the United States, Arizona Schools have several measurement and accountability programs in place to improve student scholastic achievement. One accountability program for the Arizona schools is the AZ LEARNS achievement program. AZ LEARNS holds all Arizona schools accountable for the performance of their students and teachers, measuring performance over several years versus a snapshot one-year measurement. The AZ LEARNS evaluation is based upon four established measurements already required by the Arizona schools.
