In the very far-off future the sun that will expand and engulf the Earth and then burn it like a crispy critter. Then the Sun will retract and die. Obviously there is no use in trying to save the planet at that point perhaps in 7 billion years. Any species that wants to procreate over long periods of time must move beyond its planet if it is to survive.
This is not to be considered a negative thing or a positive thing; it just is and therefore we should be thinking about space colonies and populating other worlds beyond our Earth and solar system
