Turning Customer Mistakes Into Raving Fans
When you make a mistake with a customer, should you write them off as lost -- never to return again?Nope. There have been numerous studies which show that a customer who has had a problem and gotten it resolved in a timely manner and to their satisfaction is a more loyal customer than one who has never had a problem. add the person to my mailing list to receive various promotions I run (coupons/certificates for savings on particular art, announcement of new art, background info on the art I create, etc.)

Some I reach are true collectors with a deep interest in artists and the art world. Others are just out for something free. Still others are a little of both, who would love a small piece of mine for their hallway, foyer, bathroom or other small space and who appreciate original art over a mass-ma

What Is The Big Challenge With MLM?
In the five and half years I have been in the networking and home based business industry, I have seen and heard a lot of hype and many polar opposite views of the network marketing industry. Some people are passionate about the industry, while others condemn it. Some claim all companies are pyramid schemes and scams.
As a self-taught and self-promoting artist (meaning I have no on-going gallery affiliation), I need ways to promote my art. I sell primarily through my website and online venues so I need a way to contact the world and let them know about me.

I do list on auction (ebay) sites, I do send out contact email letters/newsletters and I do work to promote my art through online articles. However, one interesting option I've discovered is the painting-a-day idea. An artist supposedly created this as a marketing tool for his art. He paints a small painting a day and blogs about it. Then he posts it for sale. The followers of his art clamor for a painting and visit his blog to see what he's on about today...and what he's created.

It's a great idea, but you really need to be prolific to keep it up. Sometimes as a painter of larger canvases that sometime require multiple layers and finishes, this is impractical. The painting of a smaller, time-compressed piece would work and there are times I can create a small nicely finished painting within an hour or two. I may give his idea a shot. I've read several artists are doing just that.

Another idea I've developed (well, it's not that original to take credit for developing the actual idea), but it works for me, is to offer a free (and I do mean no strings attached) offer for a painting. These are canvases that generally range about 11" x 14" (acrylic or mixed media). I list them on my site and offer the visitor to my site a chance to enter a drawing for a free painting. I used to do random paintings (meaning I chose the painting to be sent), but have recently changed this to offer a specific painting or choice of painting to the enteree (is that a word?) of my drawing.

Granted this is a art marketing option that costs some money (my time, materials, postage), but by giving away a free painting, it creates 1) goodwill, 2) a possible customer who appreciates my technique 3) a marketing venue. I can add the person to my mailing list to receive various promotions I run (coupons/certificates for savings on particular art, announcement of new art, background info on the art I create, etc.)

Being Creative With Your Fundraising Ideas
Have you realized just how much fundraising is going on these days? There is fundraising for little league, school fundraisers, and the college fundraiser, as well as church fundraisers. Day cares need more funds, hospitals need new equipment, and cheerleaders need to fundraise for their costumes. And to think up new fundrai

Stop Treating Payroll As a Fixed Cost
As a business and technology consultant there is one significant error I continue to see in modern business practice. Too often, management treats their payroll expense as a fixed cost of doing business. This is caused by the accounting practice of lumping payroll as a operating expense line item. While this is an acceptable

How To Become A Full-Time Grantwriter
Most people learn grant writing accidentally; their employer needs funding and there is no one else to tackle the grant applications. This learning involves a lot of trial and error – mostly error in the beginning. Get a head start and teach yourself grant writing. By taking the steps below, I went from knowing nothing about

    What Does Your Business Do?
At this point in the business startup (or reinvention) process, you should be clear about your life’s mission. Your next step is to determine what goods and/or services your business should offer that will best contribute to that mission. Never forget that your business must exist to serve your needs, never the other w
