After the council of the fallen angels dissolves, Satan, on his way to the newly-created world, flies towards the gates of Hell which are made of three layers of brass, three layers of iron and three of adamantine. Before the gates, there sat on either side a formidable shape. One, Sin, seems to be a woman waist upwards, her lower portion being made of scaly folds. About her middle, hell hounds continuously bark, and when disturbed they kennel themselves in her womb, continuing to bark unseen. She appears beautiful and alluring, but is also revolting.

The other shape, Death is a mere threatening shadow, wearing the likeness of a crown and shaking a deadly dart.
