Do You Know the Money Lingo - the Street Slang for the Cash in Your Pocket? n't handle them by yourself, then seek professional help. You may need counseling if you have addictions or therapy issues. However, if you are healthy and simply need clarity, a life coach can help. A life coach can guide you not only to gaining clarity but help you to resolve these matters, enabling you to feel freer in many areas. Some of the common terms we use for money have interesting origins and meanings. We unfortunately lost a lot of our historic money slang in 1971 when the UK went decimal. Pounds, shillings and pence were known as 'LSD'. When we had twelve pennies to a shilling, and twenty shillings to a pound there was a whole history of slang in use, a lot of it cockney rhyming. This particular language originated in London and was a type of coded talk. (A cockney was a Londoner born within hearing distance of the sound of Bow bells at Church of St Mary Le Bow, London, EC2).Pre-decimal The money used in the UK before 1971 was made up of varied coinage: A farthing, halfpenny, thruppence, sixpence or a 'tanner', a shilling or a 'bob', a two shilling or florin, a half-crown (two shillings and sixpence), a ten shilling note, a pound note, a guinea (twenty-one shillings), five, ten and twenty pound notes.Decimal Decimalisation brought the end of the interesting money language, like the 'bob' or 'Thrupenny bit' and 100 'new pence' or 'p' now made up the pound. Cockney slang has brought some modern slang for our pounds and pence.50p - Ten Bob Bit ?1 - A Quid or Nicker (from the nickel in the coins) or smacker (the noise it makes when counted out) ?5 - A fiver or Lady Godiva ?10 - A Tenner or Paul McKenna ?20 - A Score or twenty quid ?25 - A Pony ?30 - A Carpet ?50 - Half a Ton or a Nifty ?100 - A Ton or a One'r ?500 - A Monkey - thought to originate from soldiers returning from India, where the 500 rupee note had a monkey on it. This slang was then used for the sterling equivalent. ?1000 - A Grand ?2,000 - An Archer - came from the alleged Jeffrey Archer bribeSlang terms Rich - 'loaded', 'cashed up', 'rolling in it' Poor - 'skint', 'broke' Mean - 'tight-fisted' Expens If people tell you that you are "high maintenance", what they are saying is that you make a big deal out of small things. Most likely, you anger easily. You are either too dependent or too controlling and manipulative. If you lack of confidence, you tend to escape from those that actually care about you the most. You let hours and days pass without accomplishing goals but feel that you are very busy. Take an honest look at yourself to evaluate if unresolved matters have turned into hot buttons for you.
I think the place to go next is to the heart of the matter. How do you know there really is a God? Who amongst us hasn’t asked himself that question? Let’s try and find an answer together. Let’s attempt to establish some proof positive. Let’s try to prove the existence of God by eliminating the alternatives. Let’s ask ourselves some questions:1. Who else but God could have created the universe? 2. Who else could have given us the ability to reason and to talk? 3. Who else could have given us the desire to believe in God? 4. Why else would we want to have faith in one Supreme Being? 5. Why else would miracles happen? 6. How can we believe in the future without faith? 7. How can we believe in ourselves if we don’t believe in God?The answer to all these questions is to take the ‘little leap’ of faith that God is real and He is always with us.Ask yourself the question: do you believe you could go on living a worthwhile life without faith in God? Could you find happiness without faith? Could you feel secure without faith that God would protect you from the dangers you live with? Could you have peace of mind without knowing that God was watching out for you?But questions aren’t answers or proof positive, are they? The fact is the proof is in believing. The proof that God exists lies in our willingness to believe that he does. The proof lies in what we truly believe in our hearts and minds. It resides in our imagination. It is a matter of faith.Take the ‘little leap’ of faith that makes you believe that God exists and is real. Get inspired to find God.Once you accept God in your heart as a matter of faith, you will know what direction to take next. You will know to follow your instincts. You will know to take a direct path to God. Your faith will be proof positive that God exists. *******You may ask, "What are hot buttons anyway?" Hot buttons are those that, when people push, you turn red and out comes the anger, resentment, insecurity, and other negative emotions you wish weren't a part of your life. Remember the last time your boss made a comment about the project you completed? For some reason, his assessment just sent you through the roof. What about when your partner told you that you are gaining weight? Did you get upset and begin feeling insecure about your relationship? What if your manager or teacher doesn't spend much time talking with you? Do you feel less valued or respected? Some people avoid these hot buttons being pushed by simply avoiding people. Unfortunately, avoiding people can often mean "avoiding" the opportunities that can potentially change our lives for the better. If you want to reach your dream, be successful, enjoy your life and make a positive impact on others, you must be willing to confront the fact that you have certain hot buttons. Face them and deal with them! No matter how your opponents try to make you go crazy or drag you down, you remain untouched. Imagine your jealous co-worker's comments to your boss, trying to highlight your weaknesses immediately before you presenting an important proposal. After releasing forgiveness, any voice that comes to remind him of people who wronged him or mistakes that he has made, he simply ignores the voice, starts blessing the people and blessing himself. (I think he is so wise in releasing blessings to himself. So often, we get so busy in blessing others and we forget this important step for ourselves.) As you deal with each layer of unresolved matters, the next layer will surface as time passes. So, don't worry too much about whether or not you have covered everything. You won't. Just be open to receiving them as they come to your mind and heart. Jot them down. Then, forgive the people who have wronged you. Forgive yourself for doing wrong to others. Do this for the old and new unresolved matters. For the recurring unresolved matters, be open and face what you perceive. But, you still believe in the good things, the good principles and things do go well with you. Right? Many times, circumstances don't change, but because of your perspective changes, your experiences also changes. For those of your out there that are hopeless optimists, I'd love to hear from you! J
Just yesterday I received an email from a colleague telling me her husband had been laid off from yet another corporate job. Will the downsizing ever stop? I doubt it. Most large corporations focus purely on the bottom line and employees are the biggest expense. And sadly, many workers become lax at maintaining their professional network when they've worked with a company a while. With mass layoff announcements screaming at us every day in the news, having a dead or outdated business network can extend the time it takes to find a new position. And what about new grads? Without a business network, what is their hope of finding that prized position? It's common knowledge that many jobs are filled through word of mouth networking, yet most job seekers begin their hunt without a strong business network. Having a dead, outdated or non-existent business network can extend the time it takes to find a job. And if you're in business for yourself, your business network is your key to success.Whether you're shy or outgoing, business networking must be part of your marketing arsenal. You'll be successful if you are prepared. Here are a few keys to success.- Before you go to a networking meeting, be prepared with a goal. Who do you want to meet? Why are you there? Have a conversation icebreaker ready to get to know the right people.- At a networking lunch, don't reserve every seat and act like a grump if someone unfamiliar wants to sit at your table. Welcome the opportunity that a stranger presents. They may be your next customer.- Treat referrals like gold. Contact the referral within a day, if possible. Let the referrer know how things went.- Online, your email creates the first impression just like your physical presence does at face-to-face meetings. Be the business professional that you are.Connections are crucial for business success, but it's not so much who you know as who knows you. How did you find your last business connection? You probably asked a few friends who they used. That's how business ne. Everyone would like to get to the place of having few buttons (Note, I said, "few buttons, not no-buttons."). Getting there is possible but requires faith, hope, persistence and patience. One of my mentors is a man with very few buttons. When I asked him how he reached this place, he told me that he had consciously devoted efforts into working on getting rid of the past. This allowed him to move slowly into not allowing the past to have a hold on him. He then progressed to forgiving people, asking God for forgiveness and forgives himself daily. Once he forgives and accepts forgiveness, he blesses. After releasing forgiveness, any voice that comes to remind him of people who wronged him or mistakes that he has made, he simply ignores the voice, starts blessing the people and blessing himself. (I think he is so wise in releasing blessings to himself. So often, we get so busy in blessing others and we forget this important step for ourselves.) If you open up Google and do a search on the word "Hosting", more than 400 million web pages come up as a result. With that much competition, is it fairly easy to get lost while searching for a hosting provider and evaluating which are the most important things to consider. The most important things first:1. The hosting company must control their servers. --------------------------------------------------Most of the hosting industry is based on reselling server space of someone else. If the company you select don't own his space, it could happen that when you need to move to another company for any reason, you depend on their willingness to help you. This actually happened me some years ago when the hosting company with which I was working was very helpful, but was sold and after that, when I needed to move a client to another host, the company don't even replied my emails. It is very difficult to move a complex site without having root access, but I had to do it. Although I lost many days and it was very painful, the migration even wasn't perfect. Now I own a VPS (and root access to it) and my life is much better. If you are really on a budget and can't afford a VPS, go for a shared host like HostGator ( http://www.bethefinest.com/hostgator ), which is a reputable company.2. Don't let your hosting company own your domain. -------------------------------------------------Your domain is your brand on the Internet. Moreover, when you acquire links to your website you get traffic from them to your domain, not to your web host. If you lose your domain, all the traffic that came from those hard earned links are lost in an instant. If the hosting company gives you a domain name for free, make sure that the email of the administrative contact is an email that you control and you have a control panel where you can see the ownership of your domain.3. Avoid Free Hosting Of Any Kind ---------------------------------Free hosting is good for your resume or to tell the history of your dog, but face them, will never be resolved. Matters will continue to pile up. In order to control the situation, you will start lying, manipulating, playing the victim, getting angry over little things, spend time at work to avoid facing certain situations, and begin having addictions to escape from having good relationships with people. Have you ever seen a runner trying to win the race with a 50 pounds iron chain wrapped around his body? You are made to be a champion and a winner. If you feel the heavy weight, check to see if you have iron chains on you. They are not fitting for you. It is time to break them off. ================================================== Challenge for you: Give yourself a personal one or two day retreat. Go to a place where you can relax and reflect. Taking a walk in nature works great for me. For you, it may be fishing or doing something else. You know what makes you feel relaxed and puts you in your best state to reflect. Quickly list your old unresolved matters, new unresolved matters and the recurring unresolved matters. Don't think too hard. If you have to think too hard, they may be for later. As you deal with each layer of unresolved matters, the next layer will surface as time passes. Right? Once upon a time, a business could choose not to have a web site. They reasoned that they did not need a professional web site; they could do just fine without one. Then, one of their competitors decided to get a web site and a buzz was created. Not to be outdone, another competitor decided to follow suite. Then another and then another. Pretty soon customers were asking the business if they had a web site. Finally, they realized that they needed a website in order to keep up with their competitors. And so, the Internet exploded. These days, everyone has a web site. From large corporations to small businesses; families to individuals, everyone is on the Web. A friend of mine even created one for his infant child. This article is created to speak to the few remaining businesses that have yet to tackle the Internet beast. You want to have a web presence, but it seems a daunting task. "Where do I start?" you say. "What issues will I need to address so that I make the most of my new web site?" you continue. This brief article will cover some of the areas of the webdesign process to pay particular attention to. We have designed many web sites for clients that had no idea where to start. We firmly believe that client education is a vital part of the overall success of the web project. Most professional web design companies have published some guidelines that will help potential clients answer some of their questions. It is with that in mind that we have written this article. Why do you want a web site? Will your web site be for personal use (just show some photographs to your family members, for example)? Will it be to advertise a business service? Will it be an informational web site, simply to pass on knowledge to the visitor? Will it be used to sell a product? Is it important that you show up #1 in Search Engines? These are vital questions with which to begin. The answers you come up with will determine the direction in which the overall design should go.ionships or make things right, then do make that contact. This is the most important step. Do not skip it. You can have a long list of self-discovery but until you start taking actions to resolve things you are still the old YOU with a long list of self-discovery. Change requires risk. Take it and grow from it. The lightness you will feel is indescribable and well worth it. For me, since I believe in God, I ask God to help me to forgive others and allow Him to forgive me and I forgive myself. Whenever I sense bitterness rising up from thinking or facing people that I have forgiven, I bless them. When I do that, with most people, I can honestly say that when I face them, I have totally forgotten what they have done to me. Then, of course, with a few people, sometimes because I am so close to them and they are still repeating certain behaviors that remind me of how they hurt me, blessing them doesn't help me to forget what they have done to me right away. But, I continue to forgive and bless them. Over the years, I have seen changes in my relationship with such people in my life. Perhaps you would call me a hopeless optimist. But, when you believe in the good things and good principles, things do go well for you. If you are a hopeless optimist like me, people may think that you have not gone through enough in life. And, yes, you may be 16 years-old or 85 years-old but only you know what you have gone through. But, you still believe in the good things, the good principles and things do go well with you. Right? Many times, circumstances don't change, but because of your perspective changes, your experiences also changes. For those of your out there that are hopeless optimists, I'd love to hear from you! J
What would happen to a hot air balloon if you poked it with a sharp object? It would deflate and fall to the ground. Well that's like anti-American Prime Minister (PM) Paul Martin. Paul Martin came into office vowing to improve Canadian/American relations that were strained by former PM Jean Chretien. Chretien was anti-American. Chretien would rather support America's enemies then to stand with Canada's long time friend.Martin is the mini-Chretien. He hasn't improved relations between the two countries. Martin has faced scandals in his own leadership and has come under investigation. So how does a Canadian politician try to regain support? The politician criticizes the U.S. and challenges her on every level. The Canadian public eats this up and then thinks you're the Messiah. This Canadian PM has has no backbone. He's like a hot air balloon that is ready to deflate. Martin was a good finance minister but doesn't have the leadership skills to lead Canada. Martin is more liberal on social policy then Senator Ed Kennedy. It's unfortunate that Canadians define their identity this way as being anti-American. What a wonderful way to identify yourself. I'm able to comment about this because I'm Canadian. I grew up in a country that defined itself by the hatred it had for America.Canadians view America as a murderous nation (their murder rate) with no family values or morals. I don't know how Canada has come to be viewed as a country with moral values. Its rampant liberalism is almost unparalleled. If you live in Canada and you are a conservative you are ridiculed and shamed. You are even called a Nazi. Yeah, a proud conservative Jew like me is really a Nazi. What has Paul Martin done to counter this behavior? He's done nothing. Martin actually fuels this hatred.Martin continually attacks America. He isn't living up to his pledge to to improve Canadian/American relations. If he was serious, he would defend America from the bogus claims and assertions that many Canadians have about this great con't handle them by yourself, then seek professional help.
