- Children are out of school and we still have to work - let’s face it - we are jealous!
What to do? Here are three keys to reducing stress in the summertime: Planning is the first key. - Keep special toys, books, games, or projects for rainy days.
- For car trips, give your children a new, inexpensive toy after each rest stop (I’m talking dollar store here).
- Plan time without activities as well as planning activities. R & R is important.
- If you are going to spend 2 days in a row at the amusement park, make sure your child wears a different shoes the second day ;)
Manage your expectations. - Don’t try to cram a year’s worth of fun into one week. It’s hard for anyone to have fun if you are stressed about the money you are spending or the fact that this is your only week away all year.

- Our bedtimes and mealtimes are flexible in the summer. That may or may not work for you, depending on your circumstance.
- What we eat is flexible, too. Make it easy on yourself as often as you can.
I could write all day and not touch on the source of your summertime stress, but if you remember the 3 keys - planning, reasonable expectations, and flexibility, you can enjoy a summer with a minimum of stress.
