Sometimes it becomes so easier to wish and will for everything around us to just stop, our minds included. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just get our minds to stop and not have to think about anything at all? The request was couched in the word 'STRESS' No! - the person was not interested in how to attain to a higher level of stress but rather how to reduce the level of existing stress. 'Stress' is a buzz word to-day. There are other words that accompany this short but volatile word - words like: - pressure - strain - anxiety - nervous tension - trauma - hassle But whatever the word, the meaning is the same - an inability to handle the moment. It is only within each moment that stress strikes. If we can replace stress in each moment there will be no room for stress to appear. Are you aware that we only have room for one thought at a time? Well, if there is only room for one thought at a time - and I do have choice as to the thought - perhaps I should put a pleasant thought into my head. So how do we replace stress? What do we put into the space occupied by stress? Over the years I have practised a form of meditation - meditation for me being the art/science of calming my senses in order to find a peaceful spot inside my head - one that is free from stress. Meditation is not restricted nor confined to a special philosophy or religion and it is not within the limits of this article to discuss the varied methods of meditation that are in use by different people throughout the world. However, this morning as Katy and I were taking the sun and discussing relevant topics, I felt the need to 'go inside' and find some peace. I picked up an article about Dipa Ma - a Buddhist Teacher. Dipa Ma taught and practised a form of meditation that includes the following ten principles. I hope that they convey a feeling of hope, instruction and peacefulness within each of you as you go about your daily activities. 1. Choose one meditation practise and stick with it. 2. Meditate every day. 3. Any situation is workable. 4. Practise patience. 5. Free your mind. 6. Cool the fires of emotion. 7. Have fun along the way. 8. Simplify. 9.
