Developing Performance - Five Easy Steps to Getting the Best Out of Development
    1. Focus on one or two key criteriaAfter a challenging performance appraisal session, it is tempting to draw up a long list of development suggestions. However, in reality it is best to focus on no more than one or two development areas in any performance cycle. Using performance based criteria such as behavioural competencies will help focus the development. As behavioural competencies are based on the requirements of the job, it will also mean that the development is targeted and relevant.2. Set SMART goalsOnce the criteria for development have been prioritised, express each of the development areas as

    Thriving with a Business Plan
No business can thrive for long without a business plan. The entrepreneur will find it hard to pin down his successes if he has no identified goals to achieve. The business plan is his mission statement, his roadmap to success. An evaluation of the commercial viability of the venture, complete with a comprehensive description and analysis of future prospects constitutes an ideal business plan.Even if you managed to function so far with mental plans and clever ideas that sprouted on the spot, a written outline will help you zero in on the formula that worked. It will show you where you went wrong, and suggest corrective measures. You
What is stopping you from reaching your goals, your dreams, the successes you deserve in life? All too often it is because the small business IT consultant just doesn’t do IT! Many consultants and owners of small business IT companies talk a great talk, and plan until they are blue face and then fail to execute. They fail to just get up and do IT!

There is a lot of money left on the table by many IT consulting companies who do not get up and recognize the opportunities that exist inside their existing client base. Who wins deals and has successful organizations? IT consultants who are in tune with the changing trends in the computer business, along with those who have the vision to identify the needs of their clients even before their clients really feel the pain of the way they do business today.

Another factor is that the ownership of the consulting firm does not reward the overachievers in their organization. These overachievers really give of themselves for their own success and that of their firm. It is Human Nature to Propagate
Many believe that it is human nature to make up stories, embellish and tell tall tales. Indeed it appears that these folks who say this are right, it must be human nature, because it is getting harder and harder to get a straight answer out of people? Maybe it is all this political correctness that people have just given up on the truth, instead a perceived or contrived truth will do just fine?If you think about this for a second; "It is human nature to propagate!" Sure especially in groups, government agencies (as they defraud and misrepresent) and such. And Monkeys do this too (sometimes the same). Monkeys in observation use deception to misle

Quick Easy Ways To Get Your Prospects to Take Action Now
To get your prospects to take action you need to understand a bit about what will motivate them into taking action of any sort. You have to understand what drives them? You have to understand basic human nature! Most people are motivated by the same things, PLEASURE & FEAR. Out of the two most would agree we are more motivated by fear than pleasure.I’m sure you have plenty of examples in your life to back this up.In general people are fearful of losing things. We are fearful of losing what we have, fearful of losing our looks, our money, our loved ones and the list goes on.We don’t like feeling scared or fearful,

    What's a Professional Sales Manager?
I was in the depths of a major depression. As a third year salesperson with a good company, I was doing well, and was on my way to becoming the top salesperson in the nation for that company. But business had slowed down a little, and I didn't have my usual number of proposals out for consideration. So, I wasn't as busy as usual. As my activity slowed, I began to worry. My doubts increased to the point where I had thought myself into a real depression, stuck on the question of "What's the use of trying?" The more negative my thoughts became, the less energy I had. My lack of energy led to fewer and fewer sales calls, which of course, led to less activi

101 Life Lessons Learned From Wearing A Nametag 24-7
On April 24th, 2006, I took the day off to celebrate and reflect on the past 2000 days of wearing a nametag 24-7.I challenged myself to come up with a list of 101 Life Lessons Learned. It wasn't easy, but I finally finished the list this morning.I was always told, “Don’t tell ‘em what you did, tell ‘em what you learned.”Therefore, here are 101 life lessons I’ve learned from wearing a nametag 24-7 for the past 2000 days. Enjoy!1. Friendly always wins. 2. Be the first one. 3. Be the only one. 4. Be a sleeper. 5. Be interesting. 6. Be UNFORGETTABLE. 7. Be the world’s expert on yourself. 8. B
e overachievers really give of themselves for their own success and that of their firm. These quality people come into the office early, work their lunch hours and stay late often see the driftwood of the company being treated exactly the same way they are. When this happens, the overachievers quickly take on the same character traits of the underachievers in a company. There is no motivation to excel and the corporate culture is seen as one of underachievement. The worst thing that will happen is that these same overachievers seek employment somewhere else where their skills are recognized and they become your competition.

One thing in my own business life that has gave me a competitive edge in what I do, and increased my productivity in a huge way, is that I use normally quiet hours to get work done. I recently read in Brian Tracy’s book “Get Rich Your Own Way” that if you get into the office an hour before everyone else, work through your lunch hour and stay one hour later you will have three times the productivity. The reason? All of those who just want to get by are not in the office yet. Just look at the expressway in the AM, for example. The roa
