What If Your Best Employee Quits Suddenly? When a good employee leaves your organization, you not only lose a valuable talent, but also lose your time and money in finding a replacement. You cannot prevent an employee from leaving the organization. It happens. However, you should know whether your employee is leaving for the right reasons. Alternatively, is there anything wrong in your management? The most common cause for an employee-biding farewell to an organization is lack of growth in career or problems with the management. You may employ methods such as 360-degree appraisal and yet may not detect the real cause of your good employee leaving the job. Ask the current employees and they would be adamant to open their mouths. Who would want to point fingers to their managers? They fear being kicked out.Although exit surveys may provide a ray of hope to the managers in digging out the cause of resigning, you cannot simply rely on this method. If you do not check the exits, you may end up with a declined staff. In addition, the remaining employees would be left with an uncommitted attitude towards your organization.8 Tips to Retain Your Best Employees:• Interact with your employees to know their problems. Assure them your support. Ask them to confide whenever they are unhappy with the management, so that you are able to know the loopholes in your management.• Develop a scale of 1-10 and ask your employees to rate their current job.• It is always better to ask your own employees about the improvement areas of the management.• Get to know about the ideal job that your employees wish to have. Also you may ask them where they would wish to be in a couple of years. This will help you to get close to your employees’ nee

Just where d New RulesLast week I was working with one of my small business clients, a bright and dynamic woman who’s passionate about positioning her artisan business for growth. We were talking about her financial picture and forecasting robust sales over the next three years. As I coached her, she expressed excitement and eagerness to see her dreams turn into reality, yet somewhere, just below the surface, I sensed subtle resistance on her part to fully imagine the scenario we were painting.I asked her about what she was feeling. After stopping for a moment to “feel into” my observation, she tentatively at first, then heartily agreed. Then she got very curious about her seemingly incongruous resistance to success.“Sarah”, I asked, “What is your ‘rule’, about financial success? In other words, what belief do you carry (deep down) about money?” It didn’t take long for her to respond. “Well,” she reported, “if you’re financially successful, it means you have to give up on your values and your integrity”.Wow! By uncovering that one rule, Sarah hit pay dirt. She was now free to clearly see that one disempowering rule she had been carrying her entire life.Taking a look at the rules that drive your thinking is a very powerful activity to help you grow as a person, especially as a business owner. Another wise client of mine once said, “There’s no way to separate who we are from what we do”. You can have the most empowered business plans in the world and if your inner life and dialog is disempowered…forget it. It’s an up hill battle. What are your ‘under-the surface rules’ that run your life and business? To explore, ask yourself: Where are you consistently stuck in your business? What are the things that always hang
Many years ago, I watched a show called the "Ray Bradbury Theater". Every episode began with a narration of Ray saying, "People ask, where do you get your ideas?". It seems this is a question that is on everybody's mind, whether they are creating a story, or creating a business.
Just where do Career Tests - Are They Reliable? Many career tests are based upon John Holland's applicable theory of vocational or career choice. Almost everybody wants to know which job or career fits them best. Holland's theory proposes that people like to be around others who have similar personalities. When we choose a career, it means that we choose jobs where we can be around other people who are like ourselves. This theory is one of the best known and is also one of the most widely researched theory on this topic. It is frequently used by many career counsellors and coaches.
Let us take a little closer look at Holland's theory of career preferences. Holland divides the persons in our culture into six personality types:
realistic
investigative
artistic
social
enterprising
conventional
He states that people of the same personality tend to flock together. For example, entrepreneurs are attracted to making friends and working with other entrepreneurs. Artistic people are attracted to other artistic people etc. When people of the same personality type work together in a job, they create a work environment that fits their type. According to Holland, there are six basic types of work environments and are labelled exactly the same as the six different personalities above: realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional. Let's take the example of the artistic personalities; when they are together on a job, they create a work environment that rewards creative thinking and behavior -- or what we call a typically artistic environment. The next postulate in Holland’s theory is that people who choose to work in an environment similar to their personality typ

Just where d 7 Ways to Control Your Direct Selling Appointment ScheduleWhen is the last time you worked on a day or evening that you had set aside to do something with your family and went to an appointment or party instead? How did you feel when you were there? Did you feel a little angry for letting the people who are most important in your life down? It's not a great feeling is it?One of the most important things I took into consideration when I was beginning my job in Direct Sales was that I needed something that I could work around my family and other obligations. It would be a lot different from what I was accustomed to which was working my family and other obligations around my job! This is what draws a lot of people into the Direct Selling business! Yet, there are so many consultants that are so afraid to set limits with others for fear of losing business if they don't work when the customer or hostess wants that it absolutely amazes me!I consistently held three to four parties a week for approximately 48 weeks of the year (4 weeks vacation wasn't bad) for over 22 years! Yet I never worked a day or evening that I didn't want to. Every party I booked was on a date that I had pre-selected and one that fit into my schedule. You too can set yourself free when you take back control. Here are some of the ways I kept in control.1. Identify how many times per week you want to go out for your business. Remember, even if this is your part-time business you still need to leave the house once in awhile and go to work! If you are holding parties the average party takes approximately three hours plus some time at home for preparation and closing the party. A part-time consultant should be holding a minimum of two parties per week and a full time consultant should be holding three to fo

Just where d Keeping the Net Truly FreeYou may have heard of the term, Net Neutrality, but may only have a simple understanding of what this term represents. Admittedly, when I first heard about the subject, I wasn’t quite sure what it meant. Indeed, if you click on the link to the term you will get a long, drawn out explanation of what it may or may not do as far as charging users access to the internet. In short, Net Neutrality is a good thing from the standpoint of search engines, bloggers, and just about everyone else concerned about free speech. No “tollroads” are set up by the various internet service providers such as AOL, BellSouth, Verizon, etc., that would effectively tax your access to many sites. Already you pay a monthly fee for DSL, cable, dial up, etc. For those people against Net Neutraliy, they would be able to slap on an additional fee to allow you to access various sites on the internet. Supposedly, they want a cut in the ad revenue generated by Google and others and feel that they are giving away some of their carrying charges for free.Well, long story short I can tell you this: I like Net Neutrality. Just this past week, Congress said “no” to doing away with Net Neutrality, but there is always a chance the issue could surface once more at a later date.Perhaps not coincidentally I am writing this on the cusp of America’s 230rd birthday. We live in a land where we value freedom, but freedom certainly isn’t free. So, the next time Net Neutrality resurfaces, please pay close attention to what could become one of the greatest freedom issues of our time. Not just for Americans either, but on a global scale. Finally, we don’t want to become like Communist China who is, to this day, restricting access to the internet for millions
